Rhine Gorge Castle's

Perfect weather for a travel through the Rhine Castle area.

Sterrenberg and Liebenstein Castle. Two castles were built by brothers that grew to hate each other. They both fell in love with the same girl. When she died the husband killed himself.

Maus Castle - Was built in 1354 and owned by the Arch Bishop. Took 30 years to build. Built to collect tolls and protect the people in the city. Privately owned and rented out.

Rheinfels Castle - In 1692 the French tried to take it but could not. Two years later the French came back and took the Castle.

Katz Castle - In 1896 it was rebuilt after the French destroyed the Castle.

A waterway traffic light.

Train Tunnel that is made to look like a church.

Walled city with 16 towers.

Schõnburg Castle (The beautiful Castle) now a hotel and hostel. From the 12th century, the Lords of Schönburg ruled over the town of Oberwesel and had also the right to levy customs on the Rhine river. The most famous was Friedrich von Schönburg - a much-feared man known as “Marshall Schomberg” - who in the 17th century served as a colonel and as a general under the King of France in France and Portugal and later also for the Prussians and for William Prince of Orange in England.

Tam looking at the grapes on the hillside, wondering when they will be ready for her to drink. She must have these 🍇.
Gutenfels Fortress (good rock) was used by Nepolian Bonaparte. You can walk up to the Castle from the waterside. Not me.

Pfalzgrafenstein Island built in the middle of the Rhine to take tolls from traveler.

Stahleck Castle built in the  12th century, it has a water-filled partial moat, a rarity in Germany. Built on the orders of the Archbishop of Cologne, it was destroyed in the late 17th century,  but rebuilt in the 20th and is now a hotel starting at $61 per night.

Now a home off by itself.

A little old and new.
Furstenberg in 1632 the Swedish Army captured this Castle. It is now in ruins. They are trying to get funding to rebuild.

Nollig Castle

Beautiful city on the side of the Rhine.

Sooneck was built in the year 1000. It was built many times by the locals and then destroyed many times by the French army. As was all the castles on the Rhine, this was built to take money for tolls.

Reichenstein - The castle was constructed in about 1316/1317. Rheinstein Castle was important for its strategic location. By 1344, the castle was in decline. By the time of the war of succession,  the castle was very dilapidated. During the romantic period in the 19th century the Price of Prussia, 1794 to 1863, bought the castle and it was rebuilt.
The vineyard is 500 years old and still used for wine.

Rheinstein - robbers or criminals that were caught and sentenced were displayed in a cage for all the people to see that traveled up and down the river. The cage is on the top right of the circular tower.

The Niederwalddenkmal is a monument located in the Niederwald, near Rüdesheim am Rhein in Hesse, Germany. Built between 1871 and 1883 to commemorate the Unification of Germany, the monument is located within the Rhine Gorge, a larger UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monument overlooks the Rhine Valley and the town of Bingen on the far side.
Riding the gondola over a grape orchard. 🍇
Orchard located on steep banks of the Rhine river. Riesling and Pinot Noir are among the most common wines that are produced in and exported from Germany. These two varietals truly reflect the soil in which they grow. Every single Riesling and Pinot Noir has a different taste and character and we have the Romans to thank for that! The Rhine hillsides they chose for producing wine are slate-rich and offer light, fine-grained soil that’s best for producing crisp wines with noticeable acidity.

Blowing My Mind

Items that I have collected,  in no particular order,  that  BLOW MY MIND. I have been collecting and writing down information that blows my mind. Here is a list, in no particular order, of information that I have picked up shortly after I was born in 1958. It is crazy how much information that has changed or is changing as I grow older. The Universe In no particular order: The universe was created 13.8 billion years ago. Big Bang - Only two elements were formed one million of a millionth of a millionth of a second after the big bang. Because of heat after the big bang these two elements were created. 1. 75% hydrogen  2. 25% helium 400 million years after the big bang, the stars are formed under extreme heat. The stars start to fail and explode which created carbon, oxygen, iron, nitrogen cooked and then exploded. E=MC² shows that Energy and Mass are interchangeable which is how energy turned into elements or mass. The earth is 4.543 billion years old. Life on ea...

Vancouver then Disney Cruise to Alaska

Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park Purchased  by George MacKay in 1889, the 6,000 acres of forest had a beautiful Capilano river flowing right through the middle of the property. George and his team pulled ropes across the river and erected a suspension bridge. Tam is standing on the Cliffwalk which is 30 stories above the river.  I am on the Cliffwalk and removed the people in the photo with Google Photos Edit application.    Raptors are brought in to show and educate the visitors. A lady sat with this bird on her glove speaking with anyone that would listen. Very cool.  Tam standing on the porch of a 150 year old house cut from logs in the area.  Tam walking over the suspension bridge. The bridge is 450 feet (137 meters) long and moves a lot.  Stanley Park Great place to bike ride and walk along the sea wall. Stanley Park is almost 1,000 acers (400 hectares) in downtown Vancouve...
