Ludwigshafen Germany

Ludwigshafen is a large industrial city.. During WWII, thirteen thousand Allied bombers hit the city in 121 separate raids during the war, of which 56 succeeded in hitting the IG Farben plant. Those 56 raids dropped 53,000 bombs each containing 250 to 4,000 pounds of high explosives, plus 2.5 million 4-pound magnesium incendiary bombs (the bombers also dropped millions of leaflets warning the civilians to evacuate the city, plus counterfeit ration coupons). By December 1944, so much damage had been done to vital utilities that output dropped to nearly zero. Follow-up raids every week ended production permanently. By war's end most dwellings were destroyed or damaged.

I have no idea.

In this town I went to the toilet. They were marked D and M. I had to wait for someone to come out before I went in.

Heading to Ladenburg, Germany 🇩🇪.  I kept telling our guide that I needed to stop for "pictures". It was a long trip on a bike.
Bike ride that went on way to long. We road out till we could not ride anymore. Then turned around and road right back.
Small town square. Very pretty.

Carl Benz built the first car in the world right here in this garage. Ford was credited for building the first car on an assembly line.

From Google translate:
Planned in 1910 as a garden house and terrace. The upper floor served as a study, where Carl Benz retired to work undisturbed until his death in 1929. The maintenance of the card game with his two sons Eugen and Richard was also popular.

The basement housed Carl Benz's favorite vehicle type "Victoria", later the Benz type "Tonneau".

This building is believed to be the first stone garage in the world. Today it serves as the headquarters of the “Motorsport Club Dr. Carl Benz Ladenburg in the ADAC e. V. "

Blowing My Mind

Items that I have collected,  in no particular order,  that  BLOW MY MIND. I have been collecting and writing down information that blows my mind. Here is a list, in no particular order, of information that I have picked up shortly after I was born in 1958. It is crazy how much information that has changed or is changing as I grow older. The Universe In no particular order: The universe was created 13.8 billion years ago. Big Bang - Only two elements were formed one million of a millionth of a millionth of a second after the big bang. Because of heat after the big bang these two elements were created. 1. 75% hydrogen  2. 25% helium 400 million years after the big bang, the stars are formed under extreme heat. The stars start to fail and explode which created carbon, oxygen, iron, nitrogen cooked and then exploded. E=MC² shows that Energy and Mass are interchangeable which is how energy turned into elements or mass. The earth is 4.543 billion years old. Life on ea...

Mid-Atlantic Backroad Discovery Route MABDR

The BDR is a motorcycle route that goes from Damascus Virginia to the New York State border. Some of the travel is on two laneroads, while other is on Forest Service gravel roads. I started in Damascus which is a great little town the Appalachian trail goes through. You can see my bike on the right.  the Appalachian trail and the Mid-Atlantic BDR slowly meander back and forth through the country. I've met a couple guys that were hiking all the way non-stop.  This is a well photographed gap that is fun to go through.  Sceenic overlook that I turned around for.  This was taken off a dirt road. I stopped and took this photo and then a hiker appeared out of nowhere. She scared me pretty good.  First night camping. Hard to sleep when you don't have your favorite body pillow and covers.

Mount Rainier July 28, 2024

Mount Rainier is an active volcano located in Washington. Wildflower meadows circle the icy volcano in July and August while ancient forests cover the lower slopes. We walked up the section that is called Paradise which is famous for its gorgeous views and wildflowers.  While we were in Paradise in July, the area is known for its winter activities. You will find people snowshoeing, cross country skiing and sledding.  We flew into Seattle and met Rob and Rebecca then headed on a drive to Mt. Rainier.  We did see the top of Rainier, but its low cloud cover was typical for the day. Rob, Rebecca (R2), Tam and Bob The walk was up hill for a while and this old guy was hurting the next day.  I have no information about the cabin located in the bottom of the beautiful valley.  The flowers looked like they were professionally grown.  The waterfalls were scattered all through the walk. So pretty and full of life.  We even saw some wildlife.
