Lake Como

The Villa del Balbianello was built for a Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini in the 18th century and now they rent out the villa. Three famous movies were filmed here.
Casino Royal - James Bond recovery scene
A Month by the Lake - with Vanessa Redgrave and Uma Thurman
Star Wars Two - wedding scene

Lunch overlooking the lake.
We stopped in the small town of Bellagio and had what else, lasagna. Notice the hydrofoil pulling into Bellagio from Como. Trip time is about 40 to 45 minutes on the hydrofoil.

Orrido di Nesso - is a little village placed between the eastern shore of the lake, between Como and Bellagio. Medieval bridge with waterfall in the back.

Small town on the side of the lake. I think this is the town of Argegno.
Varenna, Italy has been a town since the Iron Age

Old fishing village.

Deepest lake in Italy. One of the highest mountains in Italy. 🇮🇹

This Villa rents for $7,000 per hour.

Our guides favorite villa.

Benito Mussolini tried to exit Italy and was captured here in Villa Belmote. This is were he was shot and killed at the wall of the white church. He was then taken to Milan while people cursed and spat on him as he hung upside-down.

Bellagio Italy - no casino here. Shops and food await. Alleys and steps that rise from the lake offer plenty of shopping. Mostly wine, leather, clothing and local food.

Church in downtown Bellagio 🇮🇹 called Basilica of St. Giacomo.

Small street that looks fuzzy to me.

Great pictures, Bob! You're quite the photographer. Thanks for the info too. We kind of blew through there on our way to Milan. Lake Como is more my style. We can't wait to return and spend more time. It's been 25 years.

Blowing My Mind

Items that I have collected,  in no particular order,  that  BLOW MY MIND. I have been collecting and writing down information that blows my mind. Here is a list, in no particular order, of information that I have picked up shortly after I was born in 1958. It is crazy how much information that has changed or is changing as I grow older. The Universe In no particular order: The universe was created 13.8 billion years ago. Big Bang - Only two elements were formed one million of a millionth of a millionth of a second after the big bang. Because of heat after the big bang these two elements were created. 1. 75% hydrogen  2. 25% helium 400 million years after the big bang, the stars are formed under extreme heat. The stars start to fail and explode which created carbon, oxygen, iron, nitrogen cooked and then exploded. E=MC² shows that Energy and Mass are interchangeable which is how energy turned into elements or mass. The earth is 4.543 billion years old. Life on ea...

Mid-Atlantic Backroad Discovery Route MABDR

The BDR is a motorcycle route that goes from Damascus Virginia to the New York State border. Some of the travel is on two laneroads, while other is on Forest Service gravel roads. I started in Damascus which is a great little town the Appalachian trail goes through. You can see my bike on the right.  the Appalachian trail and the Mid-Atlantic BDR slowly meander back and forth through the country. I've met a couple guys that were hiking all the way non-stop.  This is a well photographed gap that is fun to go through.  Sceenic overlook that I turned around for.  This was taken off a dirt road. I stopped and took this photo and then a hiker appeared out of nowhere. She scared me pretty good.  First night camping. Hard to sleep when you don't have your favorite body pillow and covers.

Mount Rainier July 28, 2024

Mount Rainier is an active volcano located in Washington. Wildflower meadows circle the icy volcano in July and August while ancient forests cover the lower slopes. We walked up the section that is called Paradise which is famous for its gorgeous views and wildflowers.  While we were in Paradise in July, the area is known for its winter activities. You will find people snowshoeing, cross country skiing and sledding.  We flew into Seattle and met Rob and Rebecca then headed on a drive to Mt. Rainier.  We did see the top of Rainier, but its low cloud cover was typical for the day. Rob, Rebecca (R2), Tam and Bob The walk was up hill for a while and this old guy was hurting the next day.  I have no information about the cabin located in the bottom of the beautiful valley.  The flowers looked like they were professionally grown.  The waterfalls were scattered all through the walk. So pretty and full of life.  We even saw some wildlife.
