While in Charleston I highly recommend you tour the USS Yorktown. The Yorktown was the tenth aircraft carrier to serve the US. She started service on April 15, 1943 and was deep in WWII then switched to jet aircraft and then once again changed to become a anti-submarine aircraft carrier. She served during the Vietnam war from 1965 to 1968 and then picked up the Apollo 8 astronauts and capsule. The Yorktown was decommissioned in 1970. She now serves again as a tour stop for people who would like to see what it was like on a 27,000 ton ship.
We watched a regatta from multiple colleges from the deck of the Yorktown. This ship was so big and the sailboats were so small.
From the ship you can see the beautiful bridge in the distance.
